Senior Athletics

It was a very windy day down at Ngā Puna Wai, but the seniors didn't let that hold them back from having a fantastic Athletics day! It was wonderful to see everyone trying their best and giving everything a go. We had long jump, high jump, discus, shotput, long distance running and sprints events. Thank you to all of the parent/caregiver helpers for your support and a BIG thank you to Miss Fraser for all of the organising she did to make the day go so smoothly. Well done everyone!

Welcome back and Window Art

It was fantastic to have all our Otawhito kids back at school for the past two weeks! We have loved hearing about all the children's experiences during the lockdown. As a studio, we produced our lockdown window art. We drew pictures to represent the different things that we did during lockdown such as baking, movies, youtube, walking with our families. We hope you enjoy them!

Art in Ōtāwhito

We have been very busy this week working on our self portraits. The Koreke students chose collage as their medium and Kowhai used pastels. Look at how effective our art looks!

Tuhono Kapa Haka Festival

Last night, the Year 4-8 Kapa Haka team performed at the Tuhono Kapa Haka Festival. They competed against 5 other Christchurch schools in the Intermediate section. They did an amazing job of impressing the audience and judges with their waiata, action song and our school haka. Ka pai team, you should be very proud of your efforts!

Gymnastics with Jono

Every second Friday for the rest of the term, we will have Jono from Selwyn Sports coming in to teach our Otawhito kids gymnastics. Last Friday we worked on our balance and stability which is a key part of gymnastics. As a group we worked on our core muscles and how we engage these when we are doing different activities such as planks and balancing.

Fun Day at School on Wednesday

With a large majority of Year 5 kids on the ski trip to Mount Hutt on Wednesday, the kids back at school had a fun day full of problem solving, baking and games. We made marshmallow balls, using our measuring skills that we have been working on in maths. These skills helped us with measuring the ingredients for the recipe. We played hungry hungry hippos which was a lot of fun competing in pairs to get the most tennis balls. It was a great day full of fun and laughter.
